If a sunset wedding in St. Croix on a beautiful beach isn’t the height of romance, it comes awfully close! The ocean breeze, the stunning colors of Mother Nature’s palette, a natural setting that needs no further decoration. Wow. But I’m here to talk about what happens after the wedding – at the reception.
To Thank or Not to Thank…
Should you thank your guests with beach wedding favors for sharing your day or simply hope the event itself will remain a vivid memory for family and friends? You might say, “It’s a budget thing,” and you’re right. According to The Knot, in 2014, couples spent an average of $31,213 on their weddings, $275 of which was spent on wedding favors. (And, trust me, you can include favors for a lot less than that, unless you’ve invited a small army to your wedding.)
The $31K covered the engagement ring, rehearsal dinner, gown, florist, catering, DJ, band, ceremony and reception venue, cake, etc. – if you’re in the midst of planning a wedding, you’re all too familiar with the list. I counted 19 distinct categories in their breakdown (not including favors). If you spent $15 less on each of the 15 categories, you’d have $225, enough – if not way more than enough – to give each guest a memento that expresses your gratitude.
Fuzzy Math = Fabulous Favors
Okay, so I’m not a math genius, but I do know how favors can dress up your décor and make the memories last longer for your guests – and they’re also affordable. Tip: Check every website’s “Clearance” or “On Sale” category for great deals.
Your beach wedding favor choices have grown with the popularity of destination weddings and beach weddings. If your wedding is early in the day when it’s a bit warmer, you might choose something practical, like a sandalwood hand fan.
Authentic seashell place card holders become photo holders when guests take them home. A sand-and-shell design photo frame can be a place card holder at your reception and a photo frame at home. If your reception is an elegant affair, you might like a unique, clear-gel candle featuring a vibrant purple orchid.
Look online for beach favors like chrome bottle stoppers topped with a silver seashell or a starfish. Having a laid-back destination wedding? Why not thank guests with a practical flip-flop luggage tag for a favor?
For ambiance, you can’t beat candlelight, and mini lanterns, spectacular as both table décor and wedding favors, hold tea candles that illuminate your reception and charm your guests at the wedding – and at home!
